Solicitor seeks death penalty for accused child molester, murderer

8th Circuit Solicitor David Stumbo along with Laurens County Sheriff Don Reynolds filed official notice of their intent to seek the death penalty against William Ryan Looper for the murder of 2-year-old Brantley Justin Smith.

Abbeville rapist sentenced to 25 years in prison

An Abbeville man will spend the next 25 years in prison after being convicted Thursday afternoon of a violent 2017 sexual assault, 8th Circuit Solicitor David M. Stumbo announced Friday.

Lawrence Alando Postell, 35, was found guilty by an Abbeville County jury of first-degree burglary, second-degree criminal sexual conduct, first-degree assault and battery, and kidnapping following a three-day trial at the Abbeville County Courthouse. The jury deliberated about two hours before returning the guilty verdicts.

SCDPS honors fallen Trooper Daniel Keith Rebman, Jr

Columbia, SC - The SC Department of Public Safety today held a highway dedication in honor of fallen Trooper Daniel Keith Rebman, Jr. who lost his life in the line-of-duty on October 24, 2017, in Greenville County. The ceremony was held at Morningside Baptist Church in Greenville.

SCDPS was joined by the Rebman family and friends, Sen. Karl Allen, District 7/Greenville County, Senator Ross Turner, District 8/Greenville County and law enforcement and first responders.

JTEKT North America expands Greenville County headquarters

GREENVILLE, S.C. – September 5, 2018 – JTEKT North America (JTEKT), a subsidiary of global automotive and industrial supplier JTEKT Corporation, has completed a $5.8 million expansion of its headquarters on the campus of the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR). The expansion project began in 2017 to accommodate the new jobs JTEKT has and will continue to create in Greenville, totaling 100 positions, all of which will be filled by 2020.

The Laurens County Shrine Club recently presented a check for $35,936.90 to the Greenville Shriners Hospital.  The check presented was from the money raised by the Laurens County Shrine Club's 37th Annual Race to benefit Shriners Hospitals for burned and crippled children.

Driver dies after crashing into tree

A fatal vehicle accident occurred early this morning in Laurens County.  According to the SCHP, a driver of a Toyota SUV lost control and ran off the road striking a tree.  The accident occurred around 3:40 am on Fairview Road near Swallow Road.

The name of the driver has not been released at this time.

Three arrested, meth and marijuana seized from home in Whitmire
Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said that an ongoing drug investigation in the Whitmire community culminated with the arrest of three people and the seizure of meth and marijuana from a residence in the Whitmire community.

On Friday morning, August 10, deputies and investigators from the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Whitmire Police Department served a search warrant on the residence at 75 Emory Street in Whitmire. Once inside they located approximately more than 1 gram of meth and a small amount of marijuana.

William Edward Butler, 39 of 548 Springdale Drive, Royston GA was arrested and charged with disseminating obscene material to a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor.

Ware Shoals Police arrested a man for sexually exploiting a female minor online using the Whisper app between June 2 and June 24, 2017.

Joel William Rolston, 25 of 92 Meadow Drive, Royston GA was arrested and charged with disseminating obscene material to a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor.

Commemoration of Anniversary of the Battle at Musgrove Mill State Historic Site

CLINTON – Musgrove Mill State Historic Site protects, preserves, and interprets the American Revolutionary War battle that occurred on August 19, 1780 near the home of Edward Musgrove, a colonial settler to the backcountry of South Carolina. 

A formal Revolutionary War Battle Commemoration Ceremony will take place at the Visitor Center location at 10 AM on Saturday, August 18, 2018. Presented by local chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Children of the American Revolution, the ceremony will honor the participants of the Battle at Musgrove’s Mill.  Dianne Culbertson, Vice President General, NSDAR will lead a special program entitled “Heroines of the Revolution”.

Missing elderly man found safe

The missing 83-year-old man in Laurens County has been found safe.  Laurens County Sheriff Office issued a missing person’s report earlier this morning.  Paul Patterson walked away from his home around 8 p.m. Tuesday.  His family had reported that Patterson suffers from Alzheimer’s.

A search crew found Patterson in the woods near the home around 10 a.m. Thursday morning.  He is safe.

Abbeville Promise Campaign Advances on $1.2 Million Goal

The Freshwater Coast Community Foundation’s Abbeville Promise capital campaign has achieved a pledge total of $883,500.00. That amount equals seventy-four percent of the campaign’s $1.2 million goal. The Abbeville Promise scholarship program will give students from Abbeville County the opportunity to attend Piedmont Technical College for two years tuition and required fees.

James Alvin Elrod Jr., 58 of 4519 Highway 246 North, Hodges SC was arrested and charged with 3rd degree Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor.
