Deputies discover stolen weapons, ingredients for meth during traffic stop

GREENWOOD, SC – Deputies recovered one stolen pistol and a pawn receipt for a second stolen pistol in addition to numerous ingredients used in the manufacturing of meth during a traffic stop just after 9 p.m. Friday night.

According to a report from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, deputies observed two men, later identified as Larry Lee Gaines, 49, of 3657 Riverfork Road in Waterloo, and Samuel McLane Todd, 51, of 112 Haze Street in Greenwood, go into K-Mart and return a short time later. Deputies checked the status of both men’s driver’s licenses and discovered both to be suspended.

According to the report, deputies then initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. In addition to Todd and Gaines, deputies found a female, later identified as Kimberly Dawn Falin, 44, of 5149 Riverfork Road in Waterloo, in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. The three denied any contraband being in the vehicle and gave deputies consent to search.

A search of the vehicle turned up a nearly empty bottle of vodka, two green propane cylinders, two unopened boxes of cold packs and an unopened pack of syringes in addition to other items known to be used in the manufacturing of meth. Falin’s purse, found in the front seat of the vehicles, contained a .38/.357 caliber revolver and 21 rounds of ammunition. Deputies also located 12 hydrocodone pills, a schedule III controlled substance, and one phentermine pill, an appetite suppressant and a schedule IV controlled substance.

Deputies located a number of receipts for items used in the manufacturing of meth and a receipt from a pawn shop for a Taurus 66 revolver. The Taurus 66 revolver was reported stolen in Texas and the .38/.357 revolver was reported stolen in Greenville.

Falin has been charged with open container of liquor in motor vehicle, possession of schedule III controlled substance, possession of schedule IV controlled substance, possession of meth, conspiracy to manufacture meth, possession of a stolen handgun and unlawful carrying of a handgun.

Gaines has been charged with driving under suspension, conspiracy to manufacture meth and open container of liquor in a motor vehicle.

Todd has been charged with conspiracy to manufacture meth and open container of liquor in motor vehicle.
