GPD investigating second shooting this week
Thanks for reading GwdToday - Everyday!

GREENWOOD, SC – The Greenwood Police Department is investigating the second shooting inside the city limits in the past week and the third in Greenwood County.

According to a report from the Greenwood police Department, police were dispatched to Self Regional Healthcare Sunday evening about 9:20 p.m. in response to a call about a gunshot victim. When officers arrived, hospital security told police that a van had been seen driving recklessly through the parking lot of the Outpatient Surgery Center and believed that the vehicle was involved in the incident.

The victim was shot in the right shoulder and the right side of his face. Both the victim’s pants and shirt were soaked in blood, according to the report.

The report states that the van appeared to have entered the parking lot of the Outpatient Surgery Center through the grass on the north side of the property. It appeared that the van continued through the parking lot, striking two curbs, before coming to a stop in the northwest part of the parking lot, according to the report. Both air bags were reportedly deployed, in addition to blood being all over the passenger side of the van.

According to the report, the victim’s fiancée told police that the victim left her residence earlier in the day to watch football with some friends. She also told police that she was at the residence when someone knocked on her door and told her that the victim had been shot. She told police that she did not know who the van belonged to or why the victim was in it.

According to the report, security footage showed an unknown white male park a white four-door vehicle on Edgefield Street near the ER entrance. The subject assisted victim out of the vehicle and entered the ER lobby before running back to the car and leaving.

Investigators say that they cannot release any further information concerning the incident at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

We have one of the best medical centers in the country in one of the worst crime ridden areas of the city. I've often wondered if Greenwood has a gang issue.
