Greenwood Police Department is investigating the theft of more than $5,000 worth of copper from a construction area at Self Regional Healthcare.
According to a GPD report, police were dispatched to the Lakelands’ largest hospital at about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday morning after an employee of contractor E. Luke Greene Co. discovered the theft. The employee told police that he had been working at the hospital as contracted. When he arrived at the facility on June 2 he noticed all of the cooper piping installed from the top floor to the bottom floor had been stolen. The piping ranged in size from three-quarter-inch to 2 1/2-inch.The employee told police that it was approximately a full truck load of copper pipe valued at over $5,000 an the pipe was in place when he left the premises on Friday, May 30 at 4:30 p.m.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
