Two people were arrested Tuesday after Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office investigators discovered the pair in possession of a stolen SUV and trailer.
Brandon Lee Jones, 20, of 525 Davis St., has been charged with possession of stolen goods in connection with the incident. Christie Ann Simpson, 38, of 287 Brewster Rd., Laurens, has been charged with possession of stolen goods in connection with the incident.
According to a GCSO report, investigators were made aware that Simpson and Jones were in possession of a stolen SUV and trailer with a freezer chest on the back. Investigators spotted the vehicle traveling south on Hwy. 72/221 near Coronaca. Investigators got beside the vehicle and positively identified Simpson as the driver and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle near the intersection of Springfield Church Road.
According to the report, investigators determined Simpson had a suspended license. Simpson told investigators she knew the vehicle and trailer were stolen from a residence in Laurens the previous night. Simpson told investigators another woman stole the vehicle after assaulting the owner of the vehicle. Investigators in Laurens confirmed the vehicle and trailer were stolen after tracking down the owner, who had just returned from the hospital as a result of the assault. Simpson and Jones were then arrested and taken to the Greenwood County Detention Center.
