Fire damages Dollar General
A fire damaged a local Dollar General store Sunday afternoon.
Emergency crews initially responded to the Dollar General Store no. 6655, located at 3130 Hwy. 72/221 E., just after 2 p.m. Sunday. Firefighters from Coronaca Volunteer Fire Department, Lower Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Northwest Volunteer Fire Department and Ninety Six Fire Department along with Greenwood County EMS, Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office and Duke Energy responded to the scene.
Crews battled the blaze for about two hours before getting it fully under control. Initial reports indicate the fire may have started in an electrical box in the back of the store. Employees and customers appear to have been evacuated safely as no injuries were reported as of 4:30 p.m.

I learned a long time ago to think twice before you write something, that is why I have waited until today to comment on this. Dear Barb E, you must not have been in that store in a long time and if not I am so sorry for you. If you had recently been inside you would have seen how much better the store looked. Those kids (as old as I am most people are kids) have huddled together and cleaned up that place. They are also a family in that store. I am very proud to know several of those kids personally! They are heart broken over this. I am so sad for them. They are still a team working where ever they send them, yes even out of Greenwood county! Please Barb E pray for these folks they they are able to continue being a family. I love them all! Heck if they need help rebuilding...I will be there! And just for the record...Love you Charlie and Reynae! Yall are gonna rock in your new store!

Yes, the store tended to be cluttered at times but good riddance Barb E , is not going to bring back the jobs that the employees right now are out of. That store was the livelihood for many who depended on that income. (and a convenient location for those of us in the Lakeland area) I hope it is rebuilt soon and bigger and better than before.! PRAYERS.

I am not surprised. Last time I was in that store there was so much stuff in it that you could barely walk through the isles and nothing was organized at all. Heck they didn't even have any bags to put the stuff you paid for in. Good riddance!
