Brooks Milling, 57

Brooks Currie Milling, 57, resident of 415 Fishing Village Road, widower of Patricia Gordon Milling, died Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at his home.

Born in Sumter, October 25, 1954, he was a son of the late John Butler, Sr. and Nanette Currie Milling.  He was a 1975 graduate of Midlands Technical College receiving an Associate’s Degree in Engineering.  Brooks supervised and managed construction projects for Blazer Custom Builders, T.F. Anderson & Sons, C.T. Harris, and T.B. Bulldozing and had been self-employed since 2008.

Affectionately known as “The Cowboy” by friends, Brooks was a member of the Plum Branch Saddle Club.  He was a friend to all and loved giving to others.  He substituted when needed at Meals on Wheels in McCormick and had a special bond with animals.  He was always willing to give any animal a home.  He was currently caring for his three horses, six dogs and three chickens who he loved dearly.

Mr. Milling was a member of McCormick United Methodist Church.

A loving family man, Brooks was a good brother to his brother, John B. Milling, Jr. and wife, Mary of Wedgefield; sisters, Gail M. Gore and husband, Brian of McCormick and Cindy M. Jackson and companion, Clarence “Poe” Hucks, Jr. of Newberry; a proud uncle to nieces and nephews, Clinton Snider, Christine Woodburn, D. Rivera, Amie Milling, Joshua Jackson and Heather Jackson; and several great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by nephew, Michael Milling.

Memorial services will be conducted Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 2:00 PM at McCormick United Methodist Church with Reverend Athon Arant, Sr. officiating.  Private burial will be conducted in the Old Greenwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00PM until the service hour in the church social hall.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Humane Society of McCormick County, PO Box 900, McCormick, SC 29835 or to McCormick United Methodist Church (Outreach Program), 200 East Gold Street, McCormick, SC 29835.
