James Thomas Rushton, 64, resident of 110 Heathwood Dr., husband of Diane Meredith Rushton, died peacefully at his home on Monday, October 22, 2012.
Born in Greenwood County, December 4, 1947, he was a son of the late Claude M. Rushton, Sr. and the late Margaret Norris Rushton. He was a 1966 graduate of Greenwood High School and was a US Navy Veteran. He retired from Embarq (formerly Greenwood Telephone Co.) in 2002 after 39 years of service. He also retired in 2012 from Greenwood County Parks and Recreation as Youth Sports Supervisor and formerly served as coach and director of Dixie Youth Baseball.
A member of Harris Baptist Church, he was also a member of the Adult Co-Ed III Sunday School Class.
James was a man who never met a stranger and was a devoted and loving husband, daddy, papa, brother and uncle and a friend to all.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are three daughters, Kathy R. Eklund of Greenwood, Kristy (Tim) Reagan of Chesnee and Kerry (Chris) Hodges of Campobello; a brother, Claude M. “Pete” (Jenny) Rushton, Jr. of Gray Court; a sister, Peggy R. Bryan of Greenwood; eight grandchildren, Koby, Tanner, and Brianne Eklund, Kenley and Kyler Reagan and Morgan, Madison and Matthew Hodges.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Wednesday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ryan Eklund, Rev. Frank Thomas and Rev. Randy Ouzts officiating.
Burial will follow in the First Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Nick Meredith, Danny Meredith, Michael Meredith, Jr., Larry Meredith, Jr., Jeff Meredith, Gregg Rushton, Tony Friddle, Toby Elliott and Dickey Bryan.
The family is at the home on Heathwood Drive and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Tuesday evening.
