William Rhett "Bill" Copeland, 87

William Rhett “Bill” Copeland, 87, resident of 304 Lake Forest Road, husband of Jean Isabell Stewart Copeland died January 3, 2013 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Abbeville, June 14, 1925, he was a son of the late Guy Hunter and Margaret Stewart Copeland.  Having attended Presbyterian College, Mr. Copeland entered the US Navy during World War II.  While stationed in Australia, he met his wife of sixty-seven years.  Following World War II, they came back to Abbeville and Mr. Copeland went on to finish his business degree at Greenwood College of Commerce.  He worked for Pierce-Young-Angel (PYA) and George Neeley as bookkeeper for many years and retired from the US Postal Service where he worked for over twenty years.  He was a member of the Sub Vets and enjoyed traveling to see friends from his Navy days.

Mr. Copeland was a member of Hodges Presbyterian Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are two daughters, Karen Copeland Lindley and husband James of Greenwood and Margaret Emily Copeland Mauney and husband Dennis of Woodbridge, VA; five grandchildren, James Mark and wife Donnis Cooke Lindley of Waterloo, Christopher David and wife Teresa Wideman Lindley of Greenwood, Raelene Mauney Knieriem of Lakeridge, VA, Ian Mauney of Woodbridge, VA and Andrew Mauney and wife Laura also of Woodbridge, VA; five great grandchildren; sister, Essie C. Ericksen of Abbeville; and brother, Eugene Copeland and wife Rosemary also of Abbeville.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy H. Copeland, Jr. and Stuart Copeland.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 PM from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Joel Kelly and Reverend Bob Piephoff officiating.  Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be grandsons along with Fred Wideman and Jeff Minor.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Karen C. Lindley, 103 Fulton Street and will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 PM until the service hour at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Hodges Presbyterian Church Building Fund, PO Box 99, Hodges, SC 29653.
