William Louie Summey, 87, former resident of 123 Northgate, widower of Dorothy Kilby Summey, died January 14, 2013 at NHC of Greenville.
Born December 18, 1925 in Pickens County, he was a son of the late George Stephen and Elma Brewer Summey. He was a graduate of Furman University and was a US Army Veteran of World War II having served in the European Theater in Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor in combat service. Mr. Summey retired from Liberty Life Insurance Company as branch manager of the Greenwood office.
He was a member, former deacon and Sunday School teacher of North Side Baptist Church.
Mr. Summey was twice married, secondly to the late Carolyn Alexander Kelly Summey.
Surviving are three sons, George Stephen (Mary Ann) Summey of Hodges, Martin Wayne (Nancy) Summey of Greenwood and Larry Stokes Summey of Simpsonville; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2PM Thursday at the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ron Davis and Dr. Jeff Lethco officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Ben Summey, David Snyder, Bryan Summey, Mike Sheriff, Phillip Risinger, Lewis Parsons, Frank Setzler and Mike Dawkins.
Honorary escort will be Billy Garrett, Sr., Dean Halsey, Carson Rush and Carl Burrell.
The family will be at the home of Wayne and Nancy Summey, 521 Grace Street, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 to 2 Thursday afternoon.
