Michael “Mike” Bollinger, 66, formerly of Greenwood, husband of Umip Bollinger, died February 2, 2013 in Thailand.
Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Preston Farrell Bollinger and Ruby Allred Bollinger.
Mike retired from the Army after 23 years of decorated service.
He has lived in Thailand for the past 20 years and in Bangkok for the last 14 years. He was always sitting outside his wife’s salon handing out hello's and advice to anyone who would listen, and often lending money to people that were broke, busted or had drank away their ticket hom.
When Mike returned to South Carolina, he always had to have a Dixie cheeseburger and his sister, Paulette’s, hotdogs. He loved to argue about politics and never met a stranger. Mike loved his life and his country.
Surviving in addition to his wife of Thailand are three sisters, Paulette Bannister of Greenwood, Susan West of Belton and Lynn Vail of Greenwood.
Mike was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Bollinger and a sister, Nickie Ann Bollinger.
A memorial service will be held graveside at 3 pm on Sunday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family is at their respective homes and would like to thank Jay Johnson of Thailand for his help with assisting with the family in the states.
