Calvin Strawhorn - Greenwood

Calvin Thomas Strawhorn, 90, resident of 125 Hughes Road, widower of Cleo Bartley Hughes Strawhorn, died June 12, 2013 at NHC Healthcare of Greenwood.

Born January 7, 1923, in Abbeville County, he was a son of the late William Thomas and Ida McDill Coleman Strawhorn.  He was a US Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II and was retired from Greenwood Mills-Mathews Plant.

Mr. Strawhorn was a member of Beulah Baptist Church and the Golden Oldies Sunday School Class of the church.

He was the last member of his immediate family.  Surviving are three granddaughters, Karen Hughes Polattie and Robbie Hughes (Bob) Fisher, all of Greenwood, and Donna Hughes of Ware Shoals; four great grandchildren, Ashley Polattie, Megan Polattie, Bethany Fisher and Courtney Fisher; three nephews, Joe (Dawn) Strawhorn of Greenwood, Thomas (Kathy) Tillis of Augusta and Richard Lewis of Florida; a niece, Brenda Lewis of Alabama; and numerous great nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Robert Strawhorn and Eugene Rayford Strawhorn and two sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Strawhorn and Mary Catherine Strawhorn. 

Graveside services with Military Rites will be conducted at 11:00 am Saturday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Rev. David Garrick officiating.

The family is at the home of a granddaughter, Karen Polattie, 116 Hughes Road, and will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 6 to 8 Friday evening.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC  29646, or to the charity of one’s choice.
