Henry Counts Jr - Indian Trail

Henry Olin Counts, Jr, 81, resident of 3706 Society Court, formerly of Greenwood, widower of Shirley Ellisor Counts, died August 19, 2013 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Matthews, NC.

Born in Newberry County, April 30, 1932, he was a son of the late Henry Olin Counts, Sr. and Maebelle Hawkins Counts.  He was a 1951 graduate of Newberry High School and attended Newberry College and the University of South Carolina.  Mr. Counts was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War having served in Tokyo, Japan with the 441st CIC Military Intelligence Detachment.  He retired from Greenwood Packing Plant in 1994 and has made his home in Charlotte since 2001.

He was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church in Greenwood.

Surviving are a daughter, Cathy C. Whiting of Matthews, NC and a son, Gregory S. Counts of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Kyle W. Whiting, Lauren A. Whiting, Ellis A. Counts and Avery G. Counts; one brother, George W. Counts and wife Betty of Aiken, SC.

Cryptyside services will be conducted at 2:30 PM Thursday at the Oakbrook Memorial Park Chapel Mausoleum with Rev. Barrett Alewine officiating.

Memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 550 Highway 72 Bypass NW, Greenwood, SC 29649.
