Herschel Lee Bowers, 87, formerly of 506 Willowbrook Road, died Friday, September 20, 2013 at Abbeville Nursing Home.

Born in Bowman, GA, he was a son of the late Gordon and Pearl Fleming Bowers.  Herschel retired from Mathews Mills where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his sisters: Willie Mae Bowers, Florine Bowers, Maggie Bowers and Rachel Bowers; and by his brothers: Bunyan Bowers, Buna Bowers, Alton Bowers and Edward Bowers.

Surviving are two daughters: Pamela Bowers Patterson of Greenwood and Priscilla Palmer (Roger) of Simpsonville; two sisters: Frances Bryant of Bowman, GA and Ruby Hammond of Easley; two grandchildren: Crystal Palmer Duncan (Brandon) and Kaylee Palmer; two great grandchildren: Cole and Cassie Duncan; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dustin Sims officiating. 

Pallbearers will be Russell Harrison, Brad Harrison, Paul Manley, John Akins, Roger Palmer and Dennis Clingerman.

The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The family appreciates all the care and consideration bestowed on their loved one by Abbeville Nursing Home and Hospice Care of the Piedmont.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be given to Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church, 509 Kirksey Drive, Greenwood, SC 29646.
