Ruby Mae Davis Shirley, 97, resident of 517 Old Abbeville Highway, widow of James Preston Shirley, died November 29, 2013, at her home.
Born January 24, 1916, in Greenwood County, she was a daughter of the late Archie and Margaret Nabors Davis. She was retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathews Plant.
Mrs. Shirley was a member of Providence Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary Louise Harrison of Hodges, Rebie Caldwell of Calhoun Falls and Betty Addison of the home; a son, Scott and wife Kim Shirley of Greenwood; two brothers, Billy Davis and J.R. “Jake” Davis, both of Greenwood; two granddaughters, thirteen grandsons, nineteen great-granddaughters, thirteen great-grandsons, twenty two great-great-granddaughters and twenty five great-great-grandsons.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret Hodges and a son, James Preston Shirley, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm Monday at Rice Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Alvin Hodges officiating. Burial will be in Hodges Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Frankie Hodges, Clay Harrison, Rock Caldwell, Jamie Addison, Matt Shirley and Austin Addison.
Honorary escort will be Art Youngblood, James McClendon, Chris Ouzts, Tony Davis, Ricky Davis, Larry Davis, Steve Boggs, Jimmy Freeman, Elmer Price, Larry Shirley, Raymond Shirley, Buddy Shirley and Dorton Shirley.
The family is at the home on the Old Abbeville Highway and will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 3 to 5 Sunday afternoon.
The body is at the funeral home and will be placed in the church at 2:00 pm Monday.
