William Jones Culbertson, 88, known affectionately as “Daddy Bill” resident of 2611 Highway 72 West, widower of Carolyn Willingham Culbertson, died December 26, 2013 at Hospice House.
Born in Greenwood County, May 14, 1925, he was a son of the late James M. and Mabel Hinton Culbertson. He was a graduate of Greenwood High School and was a US Army Veteran of World War II where he served as a medical technician in the Pacific. Bill was formerly co-owner of Culbertson and Pinson Contractors.
A member of South Main Street Baptist Church and the Baracca, Adult III, Mens’ Sunday School Class, he was also a charter member of the Travel Master Travel Club and a former member of the Greenwood Home Builders Association.
Surviving are a son, Carroll and wife Susie Culbertson of Greenwood and a brother, Marvin Culbertson also of Greenwood; grandchildren, Little Gene Arthur (Tesa) Culbertson, II, Tamantha (Joe) Turner, Chad (Angie) Culbertson, Heather (Brent) Bennett and Preston (Dale) Culbertson; eight great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sons, William J. Culbertson, Jr. and Gene Arthur Culbertson; brothers, James Arthur and Marion Culbertson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon Saturday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ryan Eklund officiating.
Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Little Gene Arthur Culbertson, Chad Culbertson, Preston Culbertson, Brent Bennett, Tommy Culbertson, Glenn Culbertson and Joe Turner.
Honorary escort will be members of the Baracca, Adult III, Mens Sunday School Class of South Main Street Baptist Church.
The family is at the home in the Woodlawn Community and will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 AM to 12 Noon Saturday.
