Joan Gardner - Callison

Joan C. Gardner, 90, resident of 3311 Callison Highway, widow of James M. Gardner,  passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Hospice House.

Joan was born in Kettering, England where she met her husband of 69 years.  She was the daughter of the late Harry and Edith Thompson Cox. 

Joan was employed by Greenwood County as the School Food Service Superintendent until her retirement in 1987.  She was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church where she served as church organist for over 20 years.  Joan was a dedicated Clemson Tiger fan and attended all Clemson Football home games until declining health prevented her from attending.

Joan was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Tina.  She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Richard Gardner (Sandra) of Callison; Dickie Gardner (Angie) of Callison, Dee Dee White (Paul) of Lexington and Jennifer Alexander (Jonsie) of Due West; six great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews in England and South Carolina and special family friends, Joyce and Roger Laughlin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Rehoboth United Methodist Church with Rev. Reith Sweatt officiating. 

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Alan Gardner, Bill Gardner, George Patterson, Richard Pickney, Paul White and Jonsie Alexander.

The family is at the home on Callison Highway and will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to Rehoboth United Methodist Church, 1808 Callison Highway, Greenwood, SC 29646.
