William Charlton “Red” Thompson, 63, resident of 619 Parkland Place Rd., husband of Elizabeth White Thompson, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta, GA.
Born in Greenwood County, January 15, 1951, he was a son of the late Rev. James G. and Flossie McCuen Thompson. Red was a US Navy Veteran, serving during Vietnam and retired from Capsugel Pharmaceuticals.
A member of New Market Baptist Church, he was also a member of Mathews Masonic Lodge #358, the American Legion Post #20 and the DAV.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a daughter, Denise (Ken) Boyter of Seneca; two sons, Owens (Cathy) Gary of Ninety Six and Roger Gary of Greenwood; a sister, Kathleen T. Moore and a brother, John Thompson, both of Greenwood; four grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2PM Friday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stanley Sprouse officiating.
Private family burial with military honors will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park.
The family is at the home on Parkland Place Road and will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 Thursday evening.
