Rita Moslyn McCord Boxx, beloved wife of the late John Douglas Boxx, died peacefully at her home surrounded by family Saturday, June 14, 2014. She was 83.
Visitation will be held today (Tuesday, June 17, 2014) beginning at noon at Blyth Funeral Home, 1425 Montague Ave., Greenwood, S.C., with a service immediately following at the funeral home at 1 p.m.
Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Dempsey Dixon McCord and John Thomas Logan McCord. She attended Greenwood High School. She was an executive with Greenwood Insurance Agency at the time of its merger with State Bank and Trust, where she became manager of the Insurance Department. She spent her career in insurance and banking, eventually achieving the title of vice president of Bank of America and becoming one of the first women bank executives in South Carolina.
She is survived by a daughter, Merry Boxx (Rick Outz); sons Steve (Jan) and Eric (Becky); a sister, Christine “Kit” Galphin; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lorene McCord Cole, of Lexington, N.C., and a brother, John Thomas Logan McCord, Jr., of Atlanta, Ga.
