Harold Satcher - Greenwood

  Harold Samuel Satcher, 80, of 137 Valley Road, died Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Hospice House.

  Born in Greenwood, he was the son of the late Johnnie and Ola Cannon Satcher.  Harold retired from the U. S. Air Force as Chief Master Sergeant, having served during Vietnam and under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon B. Johnson on Air Force One. He was a member of the American Legion Post 20 and graduated from the University of Maryland with a major in Electrical Engineering. He was an Electronics Instructor at Piedmont Technical College following his retirement from the Air Force. Harold was a member of Mathews United Methodist Church and attended Emerald Baptist Church.  

  Surviving are two sons, Michael Satcher and his wife, Cheri and John Satcher, all of Greenwood; a sister, Gloria Murphy and her husband, Bruce, and their son, Kenneth, of Sylvania, GA; and two grandchildren, Aaron Satcher of Charleston and Kalyn Satcher of Greenwood.

  Cryptside services with full military rites will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Oakbrook Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Curt Eidson officiating.

  Honorary escort are Robert Boyer, Richard Ables, Tyler Ray, Charles Blackwell, Daniel Byron and Michael Reed.

  The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.

  In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Hospice House, 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646, Honor Flight Upstate SC (www.honorflightupstatesc.com), PO Box 838, Simpsonville, SC 29681 or to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate).  

  The family is at the home.

  The Satcher family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude for the professional care during his time at Self Regional with a special thanks to the respiratory care department from “Sweet Harold” and finally, the care and support given by the staff of Hospice House.
