John Andrew Cobb, Jr., 95, of 1230 Montague Avenue Extension, widower of Emily Williams Cobb, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Hospice House.
Born January 25, 1919, in Greenwood, he was a son of the late John Andrew, Sr. and Ina Albertson Cobb.
Surviving are two daughters, Carolyn Massey (Ray) of Abbeville, Ginny Shirley (Buddy) of Sumter, and one son, John Andrew Cobb, III (Marty) of Greenwood. Mr. Cobb was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Grace Cobb Hodges, Lucille Cobb Gaddy, Mary Cobb Sandusky, Virginia Cobb Nelson, and Sarah Elizabeth Cobb; a brother, William Howard Cobb. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Amy Brown of Greenwood, Allison Hayford of Toccoa, GA, David Shirley of El Paso, TX, John Cobb of Bradley, SC, Warren Cobb of Charleston, SC and David Cobb of Tallahassee, FL; eight great-grandchildren, Noah Brown, Ana Brown, Erin Carter, Mia Shirley, Nikki Shirley, Maya Cobb, Arden Cobb and John Cobb.
Services will be held at Blyth Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, August 10, 2014, at 4:00 p.m., with the Reverend Ray Massey officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be John Cobb, Warren Cobb, David Cobb, David Shirley, Scott Brown, Noah Brown and Bill Hayford.
