Fred Wayne Riggins, 83, resident of 107 Scenic Ct., husband of Edith Orr Ellis Riggins, died August 18, 2014 at Hospice House.
Born October 14, 1930 in Six Mile, he was a son of the late Jacob Henry and Corrie Dillard Riggins. He was a graduate of Six Mile High School and was a US Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired manager of Monumental Life Insurance Company having served the company under its other names including Textile General Life, Palmetto State Life and Home Security Life.
He was the music minister of several churchs over the years including Oakwood Baptist Church, Pope Drive Baptist Church, both of Anderson, Brushy Creek Baptist Church, Beverly Hills Baptist Church, both in Greenville, Laurel Baptist Church in Greenwood, Greenwood Baptist Church in Florence, Lebanon Baptist Church in Anderson, Bountyland Baptist Church in Seneca, Norris Baptist Church in Norris and North Anderson Baptist Church in Anderson.
He was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church and the Adult 5 Sunday School Class of the church and was formerly a member of Southside Baptist Church in Florence. He was a member of the Christian Underwriters Association and Christian Businessmen’s Association.
He was twice married, first to the late Margaret Williams Riggins.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are a son, David W. (Rita) Riggins of Weaverville, NC; a daughter, Teresa Deaver of Florence; two step-daughters, Peggy (Harrison) McHugh and Beth (Andy) Lyle, all of Greenwood; a step-son-in-law, Phil Kornet of Grenwood; a sister, Hattie Mae Eubanks of Georgia; four grandchildren, Chase (Lauren) Riggins, Kyle Riggins, Brandy (Scott) Nutter and Kevin (Kelly) Deaver; six-step-grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a step-daughter, Susan Kornet.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 pm Wednesday at South Main Street Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Rigsby officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at 1:00 pm Thursday at the Florence National Cemetery in Florence, SC, with Rev. Jim Crooks officiating.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons and step-sons.
Honorary escort will be members of the Adult 5 Sunday School Class.
The family is at the home on Scenic Court and will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2:45 Wednesday in the Connecting Place.
