Lander third baseman Colby Painter became the Bearcats' third straight player to be named both the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week and the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) Southeast Region Player of the Week.
Painter, a sophomore from Chesnee, S.C., led the Bearcats to four straight wins last week with a .444 batting average and .944 slugging percentage. He had three home runs on the week, drove in seven and scored six himself. He collected multiple hits in three of the four games, including two in Lander's three-game PBC sweep of Young Harris.
He opened the week with a 3-for-6 outing against Newberry, hitting a walk-off two-run home run in extra innings. He homered twice more against Young Harris and drove in five runs in the three-game series with a .917 slugging percentage. He was perfect in 10 chances at third base and had a .474 on-base percentage.
Painter is currently third in the PBC in home runs, leads the league in triples and is 10th in RBIs.
Teammates Patrick Grady and Graham Ramos were the season's first two PBC and NCBWA Southeast Region Players of the Week recipients.
