Lander's Patrick Grady taken by Tampa Bay in 33rd round of MLB draft

Patrick Grady took Lander up on the only scholarship offer he received coming out of high school and after earning just about every award possible, the right fielder from Pompano Beach, Fla. was selected today in the 33rd round of the Major League Baseball draft by Tampa Bay.

This season the senior batted .386 with 91 hits, 92 runs, nine home runs, 25 doubles, 48 walks and 49 RBI. He also had a .614 slugging percentage, .518 on-base percentage and was 16-for-16 on stolen bases. In addition to being the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, he also earned Southeast Region Player of the Year honors by ABCA/Rawlings, Daktronics and the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA).
He finished out his four-year career earning second-team All-America honors by ABCA/Rawlings and the NCBWA, and was a third-team selection by Daktronics.

Grady, who set Lander single-season records in games played (61), games started (61), doubles and runs scored, finished first in NCAA Division II in runs scored, second in doubles, fourth in walks, fifth in total bases and ninth in hits and on-base percentage.

In 2013, he was named second team All-American by the NCBWA and third team by Daktronics.

"You have to look back on the whole picture to truly understand how amazing this story is," said Lander head coach Kermit Smith.  "We were his only offer coming out of high school, then you fast forward four years and now you have a professional baseball player.

"Pat will probably go down as one of the best players in Lander's history."
