Lander men's golf shares lead at AFLAC/Cougar Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Lander men's golf team is tied with host Columbus State for the lead of the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational after the first two rounds of the two-day, three-round tournament held at the par-71, 6,515-yard, Country Club of Columbus. There are 17 teams competing in the tournament.

Anthony Named National Defensive Player of the Week
Clemson, S.C. — Clemson senior linebacker Stephone Anthony has been named the Chuck Bednarik National Defensive Player of the Week for his performance at Florida State this past Saturday evening. Anthony is the first Clemson player to win the award that is presented by the Maxwell Club of Philadelphia.

Fitzgerald leads Fleet to 3rd place finish in Jay Jennison Memorial Tournament
St. Augustine, Fla. – After an opening round placed them in seventh place, the Erskine Men's Golf Team steadily climbed up the leaderboard to finish third in the 14-team Jay Jennison Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by Flagler University at The Palencia Club (Par 72, 7073 yards).

Lander men's golf team in 10th place at Jay Jennison Memorial

ST. AUGUSTINE - The Lander men's golf team is in 10th place of 14 teams Monday after the first two rounds of the two-day, three-round Jay Jennison Memorial hosted by Flagler College at the par-72, 7,073-yard Palencia Club.

The final round will be played Tuesday.

Lander's Jessica Register repeats as PBC Volleyball Specialist of the Week

Lander's Jessica Register, a senior from Spartanburg, S.C., was named the Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Specialist of the Week for the second straight time it was announced by the league office today.

In last week's victories over Southern Wesleyan and UNC Pembroke, Register averaged 14.86 assists and 4.71 digs per set.

Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina-Kentucky football game, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4 will kick at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised nationally on the SEC Network, it was announced by the league office today.

Tiger Tailgate Show heads to Greenville

CLEMSON, S.C. — Clemson football fans are invited to the BI-LO at 101 Verdae Blvd in Greenville on Saturday, Sept. 20 for the Oconee Medical Center Tiger Tailgate Show as the Tigers travel to Tallahassee to take on Florida State.

Tiger fans are encouraged to wear their Clemson orange and arrive early for the show, which begins at 5 p.m., outside the store. The fun-filled, interactive afternoon provides opportunities for fans to win tickets to upcoming Clemson home games, a special Clemson mini-fridge and gift cards from participating partners.

Lander volleyball defeats UNC Pembroke, 3-1, in season opener

PEMBROKE, N.C. - The Lander volleyball team claimed its Peach Belt Conference opener and stretched its season-opening, school-record to a 10-0 start Thursday night in a 3-1 victory over UNC Pembroke.

Game scores were 25-19, 25-19, 24-26, 25-18. UNC Pembroke drops to 6-7 overall and 0-2 in the PBC.

South Carolina Equestrian Team Ranked No. 2 in NCEA Preseason Poll
COLUMBIA, S.C. - The University of South Carolina equestrian team enters the 2014-15 season ranked second in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association preseason rankings, released today.

The Gamecocks, coming off their second straight SEC Championship and a national runner-up finish, went 15-3 last season.

Tigers Finish 16th at Cougar Classic

CLEMSON, S.C. – The Clemson women’s golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the fall on Tuesday, finishing 16th out of 23 teams at the Powerade Cougar Classic at the Yeamans Hall Club in Hanahan, S.C. J.T. Horton’s team shot a 304 as a team in the final round and 904 for the three-day tournament, 40-over par on the par 72 course.

Unbeaten Lander volleyball defeats Southern Wesleyan, 3-0

The Lander volleyball team remained undefeated Tuesday night as the Bearcats stretched their school-record start to 9-0 with a 26-24, 25-17, 37-35 non-conference victory over Southern Wesleyan in Horne Arena.

Southern Wesleyan dropped to 6-3 with the loss.

Kyle Murphy Named Co-ACC Player of the Week

CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson redshirt junior forward Kyle Murphy has been named Co-ACC Player of the Week for his performances last week in the Tigers’ road wins over Boston College and Providence.

Murphy scored both Clemson goals in the team’s 2-0 victory at Boston College on Friday, Sept. 12. The Red Hook, N.Y. native came off the bench and played 37 minutes in the contest, scoring in the 36th and 70th minutes.

Gamecocks Rise in National Polls
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Buoyed by a 38-35 win over sixth-ranked Georgia, the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-1, 1-1 SEC) climbed several notches in both national polls released today. The Gamecocks rose 10 spots in the Associated Press poll to No. 14 and climbed seven spots in the Amway Coaches’ poll to No. 16.

Bullock pounds out 18 kills in Erskine victory over Brevard
Columbus, Ga. – Senior Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) exploded for a season-high 18 kills as the Erskine Flying Fleet deflated previously unbeaten the Tornado of Brevard College 3 to 0 (25-11, 26-24, 25-23) this afternoon in the first game of the Columbus State Invitational Volleyball Tournament at the Lumpkin Center.

Lander volleyball sets school record with wins over King, Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. - The Lander volleyball set a school-record for the best start ever Saturday when the Bearcats improved to 8-0 on the season after defeating King College, 3-1, and Tusculum College, 3-0, at the Pioneer Classic. Both the 1999 and 2009 teams had 6-0 starts.

No. 24 South Carolina Knocks Off No. 6 Georgia
COLUMBIA, S.C. – After inclement and stormy weather in the Columbia area caused an hour and 26-minute delay to the start of the game, lightning struck as No. 24 South Carolina took down No. 6 Georgia, 38-35, on a rain-soaked evening at Williams-Brice Stadium. After Georgia kicker Marshall Morgan missed his second field goal of the night with 4:24 left on the clock, the Gamecocks were able to run out the clock as senior quarterback Dylan Thompson narrowly converted on a fourth-and-one at midfield with 1:26 left in the game.

TIGERVILLE - The No. 12-ranked Lander men's soccer team got goals from three different players Wednesday night to lead the Bearcats to a 3-0 non-conference victory over North Greenville.

Lander remains unbeaten at 2-0, while the Crusaders drop to 0-2.

Moore and Erskine win AU Invitational
Anderson, S.C. – Erskine's Rachel Moore (Lexington, SC, Lexington High School) shot a three over par to win the Anderson University Invitational Golf Tournament and lead the Erskine Flying Fleet to a 1st place finish in the 8-team tourney field at Cobbs Glen Country Club (5,940 yards, Par 72).  It is the second year in a row that Erskine and an Erskine golfer has won the tournament.

Erskine dominates AU Invitational with 4 Top 10 finishes
Anderson, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet had four golfers finish in the Top 10 to win the 7-team Anderson University Invitational held at Cobb's Glen Country Club (7,005 yards, Par 72).

The Flying Fleet shot a blistering tournament-best 284 today to cruise to an 11 shot victory over second place Queens University.
