Lander men's basketball defeats Brewton-Parker, 76-66

GREENWOOD – JR Washington scored 16 points as the Lander Bearcats improved to 3-0 with a 76-66 non-conference men's basketball victory over Brewton-Parker College Tuesday night at Horne Arena.

Tobiasz Hose added 13 points and paced Lander with nine rebounds. Shavanno Cooper added 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots for the Bearcats. Mike Lee scored 11 points and Kiair Crouch led Lander with four assists.

Lander women's basketball routs Brewton-Parker, 89-55

GREENWOOD – Portia McCray scored 21 points as the Lander women's basketball team closed the first half with a 21-3 run on the way to its first victory of the season, 89-55, over non-conference opponent Brewton-Parker College Tuesday night at Horne Arena.

GREENWOOD – Lander newcomers Tobiasz Hose and Shavanno Cooper made several key plays down the stretch as the Bearcats rallied past Queens 71-67 Saturday evening in the final game of the Bearcat Classic at Horne Arena.

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Aarika Judge scored 19 points Saturday afternoon to lead the Lander women's basketball team in a 76-72 non-conference loss to Lincoln Memorial University at the Carson-Newman Invitational.

JR Washington scored 21 points and Tobiasz Hose had seven key points in the final three minutes as the Lander Bearcats opened their men's basketball season by holding off NAIA top-ranked Emmanuel College 81-77 in the Bearcat Classic Friday night at Horne Arena.

Women's Volleyball racks up conference postseason awards
Due West, S.C. – The Erskine Flying Fleet garnered four all-conference awards and Head Coach Heather Vahjen took home Coach of the Year honors for the second time in her career.

Erskine's Caitlin Bullock (Lexington, SC, White Knoll High School) and Kristen Dodge (Duncan, SC, Byrnes High School) were named 1st Team All-Conference.

Sixth-seeded Lander volleyball upsets No. 3 GRU Augusta in PBC Tournament

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Three Lander volleyball players had double figures in kills Tuesday night to lead the sixth-seeded Bearcats to a 3-2 upset over third-seeded GRU Augusta in the quarterfinal round of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament at Christenberry Fieldhouse. Lander claimed the victory, 25-18, 21-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-10.

Lander to meet GRU Augusta in first round of PBC Tournament

The Lander volleyball team earned the No. 6 seed in this week's Peach Belt Conference Tournament and will travel to third-seeded GRU Augusta for a first-round game on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

The Jaguars, 26-7 overall and 13-5 in the PBC, defeated Lander (21-9, 9-9) both times in five sets during the regular season.

Seven Lander soccer players named to Peach Belt All-Academic team

The Lander men's and women's soccer teams placed seven players on the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic team it was announced by the league office on Wednesday.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.

Lander's Jessica Register named PBC Volleyball Specialist of the Week for third time

Lander's Jessica Register was named the Peach Belt Conference Volleyball Specialist of the Week for the third time this season it was announced by the PBC office today.

Register, a senior setter from Spartanburg, S.C., led the Bearcat offense to a pair of conference wins last week with 11.33 assists and 5.67 digs per set. She opened with 38 assists and 16 digs in a three-set sweep of Francis Marion, then had 30 assists with 18 digs against UNC Pembroke in another 3-0 win. She also added a pair of aces and a pair of blocks.

Register is second in the PBC in assists per set and 10th in the league in digs per set.

Hole-in-One the buzz at the Erskine Open
Brad Enlow sank a hole-in-one to win the $10,000 prize sponsored by Palmetto Insurance at the Erskine Open, a part of Erskinefest, Erskine's 175th Anniversary Celebration.

Enlow's investment of $97 in a used set of golf clubs has paid off handsomely for the Erskine senior.  Enlow used a 4 hybrid driver on the third hole of the Willow Course at Hunters Creek Country Club.
