Lander Brandon White selected PBC Baseball Freshman of the Week

Lander's Brandon White was selected the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week for baseball it was announced today by the PBC office.

In three appearances last week, White picked up a victory and two saves. He helped No. 3 Lander sweep No. 12 Georgia College when he was credited with the win in first game of the series, then had the save in the third game. He also recorded a save against Anderson earlier in the week. In three innings of work, he struck out three, walked two and only allowed one hit.

White has nine saves this season in 20 appearances. He ranks second in the PBC in saves.

Lander's Grady named PBC Baseball Player of the Week

GREENWOOD - Lander's Patrick Grady, an outfielder on the Bearcats' nationally-ranked baseball team, was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week it was announced today by the league office.

Last week, Grady hit .526 with an .842 slugging percentage to help the Bearcats go 3-1.

Lander baseball slips to No. 3 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's national poll

GREENWOOD – The Lander baseball team slipped one spot to No. 3 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's national rankings it was released today (April 7).

The Bearcats went 3-2 last week, including winning a Peach Belt Conference series against No. 14 USC Aiken. Lander opened the week with a loss to PBC rival Georgia Southwestern, 8-7, in the third game of the series which was postponed from Sunday; defeated Winston-Salem State, 27-8, their highest run total of the season; then won the first (8-3) and third (18-4) games in the USCA series, while losing the second (6-1).

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - Led by Mariana Martins first-place round, the No. 22 Lander women's golf team is in second place of four teams Monday after the first round of the two-day, two-round Mount Olive Invitational.

Lander softball loses two to UNC Pembroke

The UNC Pembroke softball team rallied for six runs in the seventh inning of Sunday afternoon's second game to defeat Lander 6-3 and sweep a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Doug Spears Field. The Braves also won the first game, 6-3.

No. 2 Lander baseball defeats USC Aiken, 18-4, claims series

AIKEN – Patrick Grady and Erik Lunde had five RBIs each and Tyler Wilson added four to lead the No. 2-ranked Lander baseball team to an 18-4 Peach Belt Conference victory Sunday at Robert Hernandez Stadium. Lander claimed the best of three series with two wins.

Lander softball loses twice to Francis Marion

The Lander softball team remained winless in the Peach Belt Conference Saturday when the Bearcats lost twice to Francis Marion, 3-1 and 7-0, in a doubleheader at Doug Spears Field.  FMU improves to 22-20 overall and 8-8 in the PBC, while Lander slips to 6-36, 0-14.

No. 2 Lander baseball falls to No. 14 USC Aiken in Game 2 of series

AIKEN – The No. 14 USC Aiken baseball team won Game 2 of its Peach Belt Conference series Saturday when the Pacers upset No. 2 Lander, 6-1, at Robert Hernandez Stadium.

USCA improves to 27-9 overall and 14-7 in the PBC, while Lander falls to 30-7, 17-7. The third and final game of the series will begin at 1 p.m., Sunday.

Lander to be represented in national cheerleader and dance team competition

Members of Lander University’s cheerleading squad and dance team are heading to Daytona, Fla., to compete in national championships April 9-13.

Kim Schoolfield, Lander’s spirit coordinator and head cheer and dance coach, said nearly 350 schools will be competing the National Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship. The two Lander teams qualified after submitting video presentations of their talents in January.

No. 2 Lander baseball defeats No. 14 USC Aiken, 8-3

AIKEN – The No. 2-ranked Lander baseball team scored three runs in the sixth inning Friday night to pull away from No 14 USC Aiken and claim an 8-3 Peach Belt Conference victory in game one of their three-game series at Robert Hernandez Stadium. The two teams will finish the series with a 4 p.m. game on Saturday and a 1 p.m. contest on Sunday.

The No. 40 Lander women's tennis team won two of three doubles matches and three singles to defeat UNC Pembroke, 5-4, Wednesday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference match at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.

Lander softball loses doubleheader against North Greenville

The Lander softball team suffered another doubleheader loss Wednesday afternoon when the Bearcats fell to North Greenville 8-1 in the first game and 6-0 in the nightcap.

North Greenville improves to 21-12, while Lander falls to 6-34.

Golf tournament May 3 at Hickory Knob benefits JDLH

McCormick - The second annual Spring John de la Howe School Open Golf Tournament to benefit the school’s children will be held Saturday, May 3 at Hickory Knob Golf Course.

Sponsored by the school’s alumni association, the tournament carries an entry fee $50 per player or $200 per team. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the shotgun start is set for 9:30 a.m. The tournament will be a Captain’s Choice format, with cash prizes awarded to the first and second place teams.

Lander's Verpeaux named PBC Men's Tennis Player of the Week

Lander men's tennis player Vincent Verpeaux, a senior from Aix en Provence, France, was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week it was announced by the league office on Tuesday.

Last week, Verpeaux, who is ranked No. 15 nationally,  improved to 11-3 in singles play with his 6-3, 6-1 win over 26th-ranked Ettore Damiani of No. 15 USC Aiken at No. 1 singles.

AMERICUS, Ga. – Georgia Southwestern's Corey Benson scored on a bases-loaded walk in the ninth inning Monday afternoon to give the Hurricanes an 8-7 Peach Belt Conference upset victory over No. 2-ranked Lander in a Peach Belt Conference game at Hurricane Stadium.

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Columbus State softball team swept a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Lander Monday afternoon by winning the first game, 1-0, and the second, 8-1.

CSU improves to 23-16 overall and 6-8 in the PBC, while Lander slips to 6-30, 0-12.

AMERICUS, Ga. – The No. 2-ranked Lander baseball team saw its nine-game win streak come to an end in the first game and the Bearcats split the Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern in the second when Connor Lewis hit his school-record 13th home run. Lander won the second game, 16-3, after losing the opener 3-2.

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Connor Lewis hit his school-record 12th home run of the season Sunday, while Weston Lawing added two roundtrippers of his own to lead the No. 2 Lander baseball team to a 15-8 Peach Belt Conference victory over Montevallo at Kermit A. Johnson Field.

Lander men's golf team finishes 11th at Bobcat Invitational

EATONTON, Ga. – The Lander men's golf team finished 11th of 17 teams Tuesday in the two-day, two-round Bobcat Invitational hosted by Georgia College at the par 70, 6,847-yard Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee course. The tournament was scheduled for three rounds, but was shortened to two due to bad course conditions caused by Monday's rain.

EATONTON, Ga. – The Lander men's golf team is tied for tenth place overall Monday after the first round of the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Georgia College at the par 70, 6,847-yard Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee course. The rain-shortened tournament will conclude with one round of competition on Tuesday.

The Lander softball team blasted three home runs in the first game, but No. 4-ranked Armstrong Atlantic rallied for a 4-3 Peach Belt Conference win and a doubleheader sweep against the Bearcats. The Pirates won the second game, 8-0, in five innings.

NEWBERRY – Austin Dunn and Connor Lewis both hit home runs Tuesday afternoon and Ryan Jones earned the complete-game victory in No. 4 Lander's 5-2 non-conference win over Newberry College.

No. 4 Lander baseball splits doubleheader with Francis Marion
Colby Painter hit a grand slam with two outs in the eighth inning, rallying the No. 4 Lander Bearcats to a Game 2 victory and a double-header split against Peach Belt Conference rival Francis Marion University Sunday afternoon at Dolny Stadium.

The Patriots rallied from a 7-2 deficit to win the opener 10-7 and led 5-2 going into the bottom of the eighth of the nightcap. But Painter's dramatic grand slam capped a five-run eighth, propelling Lander to a 7-5 victory.

Lander men's basketball falls in PBC Tournament first round

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Georgia Southwestern trailed almost the entire second half before taking its first lead with one minute left, and then eliminated the Lander Bearcats from the Peach Belt Conference Men's Basketball Tournament 74-70 Friday night in quarterfinal action at Columbus State University's Frank G. Lumpkin Center.
