The Ninety Six Wildcat Marching Band celebrated the end of its 2012 season with a second place win at the SC State Championships in Batesburg Saturday. It was truly a "photo finish" complete with checkered flags waved by fans that literally filled the stands (even earning a nod from the announcer).

This was the payoff for hundreds of hours of practice that began in the summer with full days of Kentucky-fried work on the asphalt learning the intricate marching drill and challenging music of "Drive," their car-and-driver themed show.

Each week, more polish was added in the form of extra visual effects, like the 'crash,' the 'pit stop' and coordinated moves by the instrumentalists. The band then powered through six contests over five weekends in a row, competing within their own 1A class but sometimes in 2A or even 3A against larger band programs. Highlights of the competition season include 1st place in class 3A with a Superior rating and Best Horn Line award at the Lorraine Paris Invitational in Newberry, SC; Best Music Awards, a Superior Rating and 1st place in Class 3A competition at the Clinton Invitational; and of course their fourth consecutive Class 1A Upper State Championship.  Congratulations to the Ninety Six Wildcat Marching Band for their season accomplishments.
