After being crowned District 1 Champions, the Greenwood-Abbeville Little League 11-year-old team headed up to Easley, S.C., to compete in the S.C. state tournament. The team went undefeated in the tournament and outscored Greenville 13-1 in the final game to become the 2013 South Carolina State Champions.

Greenville struck the first blow, scoring one run in the bottom of the first inning. After Greenville retired the first two Greenwood batters, Drew Phillips and Andrew Gossett answered with back-to-back home runs. With two outs and the bases loaded, Brayden McCary sent a screaming line drive up the middle, knocking the pitchers glove off and leaving the bases loaded for Luke Poole.   Poole unloaded them with one swing, hitting a grand slam that put Greenwood up 6-1 in the first inning and there was no looking back.

Brayden Ridge and Lennox Adams added homeruns of their own in the second and third innings, respctively.  Wells Gunter and Eli White flashed some great glove work to keep Greenville off the bases and Zeke Walston’s double in the third inning sealed the deal.

As a team, they pounded out 15 hits, including five home runs in three innings, en route to the 13-1 victory. Logan Bruce pitched a gem, only allowing three hits and one run in four innings pitched.  Throughout the state tournament, the 11-year-old Greenwood team scattered 42 hits, including 18 home runs.

The team is now headed to North Carolina for the East Coast Regional where they will represent the state of South Carolina in the Little League Tournament of State Champions.
