Thanks for reading GwdToday - Everyday!

The Ninety Six Wildcat Marching Band won the 2013 Division 1A SC State Championship on Saturday, October 26th, at Batesburg-Leesville High School with a Superior Rating of 88.8 for their program entitled "Construction Zone".

They also received awards for High Visual, High Music, and High Overall Effect at the competition.  This was the culmination of an exceptional six week competition season for the Wildcat Band which included three 1st place class trophies, one 2nd place class trophy, two division grand championships, and an Upper State Championship as well as various other superlative awards.

The band members and staff began their season on a blistering hot day in July and after countless hours of practice they saw their hard work pay off on a blustery cold October night.

After their big win the Band Director, Mr. David Vickery, stated, "I am very proud of the hard work the students, staff, parents, and community put into our competition season.  I appreciate Principal Rex Ward, Superintendent Dr. Petersen, and the entire Ninety Six School District for the support they give to the arts and specifically the band programs."

Congrats Wild Cats...being a part of the Saluda High Marching Band (go Tigers) are some of my best memories.

Mr. Vickery has been a wonderful influence for my son over the past 3 years, as well for many others kids, I'm sure. He has a dedicated staff (shout out to Mr. Bagwell!) and hard working volunteer parents. I am grateful for all those parents who do the hard work behind the scenes. Thank you.
I'm very excited that 96 MB captured that State Championship. Those kids work so hard...just as hard as any other sport. This is a demanding, highly skill based effort, and all the kids should be proud of their accomplishment!

Mr. Vickery should be recognized for what he has accomplished over the last few years with the 96 marching band. As I recall he basically had to start from "scratch" and gather support for his vision. I should hope that the people and especially the school in Ninety Six have a David Vickery day or week to show their pride and support for his efforts. It is a lot easier to get funding for sports than it is for other activities so the members of the band and their boosters should be proud of the hard work as the band is a great reflection on the school and town. Mr. Vickery - thanks for your dedication to this group.
