Greenwood, SC – HospiceCare of the Piedmont, along with other national, state and community organizations, is leading a massive effort to highlight the importance of advance healthcare decision-making an effort that has culminated in the formal designation of April 16th as National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD).
HospiceCare of the Piedmont is providing information and tools for the public to talk about their wishes with family, friends and healthcare providers, and execute written advance directives (healthcare power of attorney and living will) in accordance with South Carolina state laws. These resources are available to the community on April 16th, as well as throughout the year, at HospiceCare of the Piedmont’s office at 408 West Alexander Avenue.
HospiceCare of the Piedmont hopes that you will take this time to discuss and document your healthcare wishes - to be prepared in the event of a health crisis, and having the talk is easier that most people think. Many of us need a little inspiration or a reminder to do it. April 16th is your reminder, National Healthcare Decisions Day.
Advanced care planning is something we ALL should do and encourage others to do, regardless of age or current health. Fewer families and healthcare providers would have to struggle with making difficult healthcare decisions in the absence of guidance from the patient, and healthcare providers and facilities would be better equipped to address advance healthcare planning issues before a crisis and be able to honor patient wishes when the time comes to do so.
Discussing your wishes can be one of the most important gifts you ever give your loved ones.
