Lander concert to shine a spotlight on Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons
Thanks for reading GwdToday - Everyday!

The University Singers and Old Main Singers of Lander University will present “Praise and Thanksgiving, Love and Joy,” a concert of choral music for the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. The concert is Thursday, Nov. 21, at 8 p.m., in Lander’s Josephine P. Abney Cultural Center Auditorium, and admission is free.

The first half of the program will focus on Thanksgiving and feature Bach's “Alleluia” from the motet “Lobet den Herrn alle Heiden;” Pachelbel's double choir motet “Nun danket alle Gott;” Kliewer's “Sunset to Sunrise” and “In the Rifted Rock I'm Resting,” and Ballard's “Welcoming Table.”

Christmas selections in the second half will feature Young's “There is No Rose of Such Virtue;” Folstrom's “A la Nanita Nana;” Ballet's “Lute-Book Lullaby,” four carols by Alfred Burt; Mendelssohn's “There Shall a Star from Jacob Rise Up” from “Christus;” and André Thomas's 2012 arrangement of “The Virgin Mary Had a Baby Boy.”

Associate professor of music Dr. Chuck Neufeld, who conducts The University Singers and Old Main Singers, said, "We are excited to present this music for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. I believe that audience members will enjoy the variety of music that the choirs will sing." Neufeld added that the concert will also include a fun audience-participation selection.
