The third grade classes of Springfield Elementary School spent the day with a Cherokee tribe of South Carolina. The third grade classes study the Native American Tribes that are know to have resided in South Carolina before the explorers came to South Carolina. As part of the study they classes were able to attend Kid's Day with the Cherokee in Gray Court. The Cherokee tribe allowed the children a hands-on approach to learning about their history and culture.
The children were able to experience myths and legends told by the Cherokee, how they make the dugout canoes, their summer and winter homes, the uses that they had for different parts of the animals they killed, and how the Cherokee would dress. The children were also exposed to the different types of weapons that they would use to hunt animals.
