Greenwood native to debut with Furman Singers

Antonio “TJ” came on the scene in 1991. At the early age of three years old, his parents knew he was born to sing. His parents gave him a drum set, which he played as he sang in his room. At the age of eight, he began piano lessons. He was able to read music and listen to music so well that he could duplicate what he heard. That gave him the mind to perform with the biggest and smallest of crowds.

He has performed at his church (Bethlehem Church of God, Holiness), Matthews Elementary, West View Middle, and Emerald High School. He is now attending Furman University, where he is a junior and majoring in Music with an emphasis in voice. He was privileged to journey to Italy last fall to study abroad for a semester.

Friday, April the 19th, TJ will perform his first solo with the Furman Singers. The program begins at 8:00 PM at Furman University.

This is an elite group that is known all over the United States. Founded in 1946, the Furman Singers have maintained a national and international reputation through its annual concert tours and biennial tours of Europe.  The group also toured with the Boston Pops in December 2006 and 2008 as part of the Holiday Pops tour.

TJ is grateful for those in Greenwood who have touched his life. His parents are Antonio, Sr. and Laquetta Edwards.

TJ is an outstanding young man. I had the pleasure of teaching him and coaching him while he was in Greenwood. I love to see the good things that our young people are doing with their lives! Keep it up TJ! We are very proud of you!

So proud of TJ I remember when we asked his Mother if he could perform for Mt. Moriah during our gathering for the Burton Center. I know your parents, grandparents and other family members are rejoicing in your special talents. To God be the glory, keep doing what you are doing as a strong black male in this country.

I would yeild the piano to him on any day. He is a great young man and very respectful. Tony & Laquetta, you guys did a good work with TJ.
TJ, when you get that recording label I want to take credit for showing you where middle C is on the piano. LOL. Stay encouraged, my friend.
