Batesburg-Leesville, S.C. - Last Friday the W.W. King Academy baseball and softball teams traveled to Anderson to face the Lions of Anderson Christian School for their first SCISA Region 2-A games and returned home with victories.

The Lady Knights upped their season record to 2-1 with a 30-2 romp in four innings. Morgan Price reached base 8 times in the game, scoring 5 runs on 3 hits. She also reached base on 3 walks and 2 errors.

Elizabeth Parrish and Charlie Griffith had 4-hit games, scoring 4 runs each. Griffith went 4 for 5, and Parrish went 4 for 6. Texanna Miller went 3 for 6, scoring 4 runs. Rebecca Bartley was 3 for 6, scoring 2 runs.

Others getting at least one hit were Carson Buzhardt, Harley Fincher, Kaitlyn Herron, and Taylor Rienzo. Buzhardt was the winning pitcher going the distance allowing only 2 hits and striking out 4.

This week the Lady Knights will host the Lady Eagles of Newberry on Friday in another region game.

The baseball team of Coach Zach Matthews had their hitting game going for the second straight game and came away with a 12-4 win to extend their winning streak to three.

Blake Sauls was the starting pitcher and went the first four innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and striking out 7 batters to earn the win. Jake Bryan came on to pitch the last two innings and allowed 1 run on 2 hits and 2 strikeouts.

Alex Berry had another good game with the bat, going 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs. He had a single, double, and home run in the game and scored 3 run. Six of his seven hits this season have been for extra bases giving him a .467 batting average.

The Knights got good production out of the bottom of the lineup getting 2 hits each out of Conner Fox and Rhett Holston. Fox had 2 RBIs with his single and double and Holston got 1 RBI with his double.

Bryan went 2 for 5 with two singles and scored 2 runs. Price Carpenter had an RBI triple for his 1 for 4 day and Caleb Fulmer went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI.

Earlier in the week the Knights had exploded for a four inning 17-1 rout of Greenwood Christian. Bryson Holsonback was the winning pitcher in that game.

Sauls went 3 for 3, scoring 4 runs in that win. Corbie Long drove in 4 runs with his 2 hits, and Berry drove in 2 runs with his 2 doubles in the game. Carpenter, Fulmer and Holston had 1 hit each.

The Knights put the game away in the fourth inning, exploding for 12 runs.

This week the Knights will host Ridge Spring-Monetta on Wednesday and travel to Greenwood Christian on Friday.

The Knight Junior Varsity baseball team opened their season with a 6-0 shutout win over Greenwood Christian.

Jonathan Griffith pitched a no-hitter. Only two Hawks reached base on him from a hit batter and an error. He picked the hit batter off first base after only one pitch to the next batter. Griffith went 2 for 3 with the bat.

Chris Fincher and Wyatt McDonald had 1 for 3 games with 2 RBIs. Lane Bedenbaugh had a 1 for 2 game with 2 RBIs.
