A Springfield Elementary School student was struck by a car on Florida Avenue while walking to school Thursday morning.
According to officials with the Greenwood Police Department, a vehicle was travelling down Florida Avenue after dropping off a child at the school when another child ran out in front of the vehicle and was clipped by the side bumper of the vehicle.
Greenwood County EMS responded to the scene and treated the child before transporting her to Self Regional Medical Center as a precautionary measure. The injuries were not serious, officials said.
Greenwood District 50 officials say that are reviewing every aspect of the incident with law enforcement.
“This is a very unsettling situation for the district and we are very concerned for the student and their family,” Superintendent Darrell Johnson said in a statement released by the district. “The safety of our students is our greatest concern. We will investigate this situation to ensure that all of our students are safe at District 50 schools.”
