Thanks for reading GwdToday - Everyday!

The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Greenwood man believed to be involved in the armed robbery of the Hickory Point convenience store on Highway 25 that occurred on June 10. The man is also believed to be involved in an armed robbery in Laurens County.

Investigators believe that Corey Alex Downs, 20, of 521 Willson St. Apt 6, was one of two men that robbed the store at gunpoint just before 2 a.m. on June 10. Investigators with the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office believe Downs was also involved in the June 13 armed robbery of the Hot Spot convenience store located on Highway 221 in Laurens County.

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office has also arrested Thomas Conway, 19, of 215 Little Mountain Rd. in Ninety Six, in connection with the Hot Spot armed robbery. Investigators with the Greenwood County Violent Crimes Task Force say they are still looking into whether or not Conway was involved in the armed robbery of the Hickory Point in South Greenwood.

Downs has been charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection with the robbery in Greenwood. He has also been charged with receiving stolen goods in connection with another burglary. Downs will be charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and kidnapping in connection with the Hot Spot robbery in Laurens County.

Conway has been charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and kidnapping in connection with the Hot Spot robbery in Laurens County. He is currently being held at the Johnson Detention Center. Conway was arrested and charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature in connection with a March shooting that occurred at the Cabstand Club on Seaboard Avenue.

Downs is currently being held at the Greenwood County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing. Following the bond hearing, he will be transported to Laurens County to be served warrants and await a bond hearing on the charges from that county.
