The annual Aviation Expo at the Greenwood County airport will be held Saturday as part of the 2013 Festival of Flowers. This year, two precision formation flight teams in addition to two aerobatic demonstrations and a parachute team will be performing.

The festivities begin at 9 a.m. Saturday morning, with gates opening at 8:30 a.m. There will be a Hall of Heroes display, RC plane demonstrations and airplane ride available throughout the day. There will also demonstrations by the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office and the Coronaca Volunteer Fire Department along with a car show. A complete schedule can be found in the sidebar to the right.

The day will be highlighted by an air show, which will begin with a demonstration by the Flying Tigers parachute Team. That will be followed by demonstrations from Gary Ward, Greg Connell, Team Aerodynamix and Lima Lima Flight Crew.

Gary Ward flies an MX2 aerobatic airplane and puts the plane through a number of exciting maneuvers, including a flat spin which he exits while inverted. Greg Connell, who is a student of Ward’s, flies a Pitts S2-B airplane and performs an equally breathtaking show. A four-member team from Team Aerodynamix will perform precision maneuvers and formation aerobatics.  The Lima Lima Flight Team stresses precision formation flying and keeping the team in front of an airshow crowd during all of its maneuvers, from take-off to landing. Lima Lima has performed in all across the country in front of more than 100 million spectators.
