Man arrested in alleged armed robbery

A Greenwood man is facing charges after police say he robbed another man at gunpoint at a home on Nations Road in Ware Shoals.

According to report from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, police were dispatched to Cokesbury Grocery, located at 4202 Cokesbury Rd. in Hodges, at about 2:30 p.m. Monday afternoon after receiving a call about an armed robbery. When they arrived, officers met with the victim who said he had been at a residence on Nations Road in Ware Shoals when a man, later identified as James Benesly Perrin Jr., 27, of 520 W. Deadfall Rd., pointed an AK-47 at him and demanded money.

According to the report, the victim told police he had about $400 in cash on him, which he gave to Perrin in addition to a cell phone, valued at $800, and a gold “grill,” which the victim had in his mouth and is valued at $400. The victim told police that Perrin then made him strip off his clothes to make sure there was no more money in any pockets. The victim said that Perrin then gave him back his clothes and told him to leave the residence. The victim told police that he walked to a nearby residence and called his girlfriend to come pick him up.

The case was turned over to the Violent Crimes Task Force, who developed Perrin as a suspect through their investigation. Perrin has been charged with armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
