Greenwood School District 50 is committed to educating and preparing all students for the 21st Century Workforce. This year Emerald High School, Springfield Elementary School, and Westview Middle School will participate in year one of an initiative entitled 50G-The New Generation of Learners. The purpose of 50G is to provide engaging, technology supported, learning environments where students collaborate and learn together.
On August 13, 2013, beginning at 5:00 p.m., an iSchool Initiative’s Digital Learning Revolution (DLR) Tour will be hosted at Emerald High School. Travis Allen, creator of the iSchool Initiative DLR Tour, will be in attendance to share vital information about his growing non-profit organization. Before graduating high school, Allen created a viral YouTube video on revolutionizing America’s education through mobile learning. He is currently a senior at Kennesaw State University (KSU) and considered one of the prominent young visionaries for digital learning in the classroom. In 2012, Allen was named winner of the Google Young Minds competition. He has presented in over 26 states and 3 continents allowing him to reach an audience of over 200,000 people.
Parents, students, and community members are invited to attend this tour. The DLR Tour bus will be on site and give participants an opportunity to experience a digital conversion classroom. From 5:30 -7:00 p.m. participants will also be invited to attend the “Digital Natives vs. Digital Immigrants” presentation in the Emerald High School gymnasium. During this presentation, parents will be provided more information about learning with technology and 50G. Parents will also have an opportunity to submit questions to a panel.
