Man airlifted following accident

A man was airlifted after his bicycle was struck by a pickup truck on Ninety Six Highway near Marshall Circle Saturday night.

The accident occurred just after 10 p.m. Saturday night. It appears that a man was riding a bicycle in the middle of Ninety Six Highway headed toward Ninety Six when he was struck by the truck, which was also travelling toward Ninety Six. There were several beer cans scattered around the scene that appeared to have been full at the time of the accident.

The man on the bicycle was airlifted. Officials with the South Carolina Highway patrol said they were unsure as to which hospital the man was airlifted. No further information will be available until Sunday morning, officials said.

The man on the bicycle was conscious when he was put into the ambulance to be taken to the helicopter landing zone. The man’s condition is unknown at this time.

That is my brother. Any thoughts and prayers would be appreciated. He is in critical condition at Greenville Memorial Hospital. He's in very bad shape and we are all thankful he is alive. His name is Greg Smith but most people call him "Ducky."

This is not the first person to be hit by cars or trucks. I think the county should put sidewalks down highway 34. They have them on highway 25 and I have seen 1 person on this. If you are going to use our tax dollars on sidewalks put them where they are needed. there is always someone walking on this road. I think it is time to do something about this and these would be used every day.
