Thanks for reading GwdToday - Everyday!

The Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office recovered a stolen truck from behind a house on Old Hwy. 246 S. on Sunday, which led to charges for one Greenwood man.

According to a report from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office, police were called to 3400 Old Hwy. 246 S. about a stolen truck possibly being behind the house. When they arrived, officers located a Toyota truck behind the house that had been spray painted and had the vehicle identification number tag removed. The license plate was still on the truck and matched a Toyota truck which had been reported stolen from Greenwood.

According to the report, officers located Robert Dale Johnston Jr., 33, of 215-B Grace St. in Greenwood, inside the house. Johnston told the officers that he had purchased the vehicle from a man in Anderson for $400. Officers told Johnston he was under arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle. Johnston later told officers that the VIN plate was wrapped inside some of his clothing in the bathroom inside the house. Officers also located the key to the truck in Johnston’s back pocket.

Johnston was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, greater than $5,000.

The victim in the case, Frank Rutledge, went to the residence to retrieve his truck. Rutledge sent GwdToday a letter to the editor thanking law enforcement for their work in recovering the vehicle. The letter can be read by clicking on the link below.
