Thanks for reading GwdToday - Everyday!

A Hodges man has been arrested and charged with first degree assault in battery in connection with an Aug. 10 incident in which police say he assaulted a woman.

According to a report from the Ware Shoals Police Department, a woman went to the Ware Shoals police station on Sep. 2 to report the incident. The woman told police that Robert Matthew Vinson, 35, of 2915 Ridge Rd. in Hodges, had sexually assaulted her. The victim, who cried often while speaking with police, said that Vinson had assaulted her in August and she had been seeing a sexual trauma counselor since that time. The woman told police that her counselor had advised her to wait to report the incident until the initial shock went away.

According to the report, the woman told police that a friend had taken pictures of her wrists, which were swollen following the incident. The woman told police that similar things had happened with Vinson before, but he had gone too far this time. The woman also told police that she had text messages from Vinson admitting that what he did was wrong.

Vinson was arrested on Monday and charged with first degree assault and battery.

I can believe a victim would wait to report a crime. I can't believe a professional counselor would suggest that she wait.

I too question this charge. What type of counselor advises a victim to wait to report charges? Not a good one. Evidence disappears with time, evidence is what is needed to pursue a charge. And if this had happened before WHY would she involve herself again with him. Hopefully the truth will come out soon, before anymore damage is done.

I question the validity of the “victim”. We tend to believe the “victim” in cases like this. However, her story is just a fictional story. She obviously rehearsed this. To wait the length of time she did to report it is just unbelievable. Best of luck to her in court.
