The City of Greenwood continues to build momentum for the vision of an expanded farmers market in Uptown Greenwood along Maxwell Avenue. In an effort to grow the dream that grew out of the 2011 Uptown Greenwood Farmers Market Master Plan sessions, the City is kicking off a fall Uptown Market every Wednesday in October and November from 10 AM – 2 PM.
The Uptown Market will take place around the Uptown Market Stands that are located at 236/238 Maxwell Avenue across from The Mill House Restaurant. In addition to the market stands, a small tent market will be established offering a variety of local produce and value added products. The City has operated the stands at this location since 2011.
Local producers including Bio Way Farm (Ware Shoals), Happy Critters Ranch (Honea Path), Parisi Farms (Abbeville), Sharon's Natural Cut Flowers (Abbeville), and Sonnen Hof (Due West) are planning to participate. The produce for sale will depend on the availability of fresh produce.
Additionally, value added delectables will be available from Grits and Groceries (Belton). Special features will include visits from Self Regional Healthcare’s (SRH) Health Express, featured recipes from SRH Registered Dieticians, live music, cooking demonstrations, AND MORE! Events will vary from week to week.
“The City and our many partners have worked thoroughly and carefully to develop a long term, sustainable market on Maxwell Avenue,” said Mayor Welborn Adams. “The Wednesday fall market is another step in that direction.”
With the creation of the Wednesday mid-day market, the City is also releasing a new “Uptown Market” logo that shares the same look as the City’s other branding and signage efforts.
