It took 34 years, but Jeff Wright has come full circle. Every day Wright shows up for work he visits the place of his birth.
Wright was born at Self Regional Helthcare, known then as Self Memorial Hospital, in June 1979. Now, at age 34, Wright is Lab Manager at Self Regional Healthcare.
"It's pretty cool coming back to a place where your family received services," Wright said of his new job. "It makes your job more personal."
Wright grew up in Clinton before attending Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C. Wright graduated with a degree in Biology in 2004. He then worked at Palmetto Health in Columbia for the last nine years.
According to Wright, he had no intention of coming to work at the hospital of his birth.
"(The opportunity) just came out of the blue," Wright said. "The job was posted for a while and I didn't pursue it at first. We were happy where we were."
Wright decided to apply for the job and ended up moving his wife and two daughters to Greenwood. Wright said he and his family enjoyed Columbia, but are very happy here in Greenwood.
"(Self Regional Healthcare) is more family-oriented," Wright said. "The hospital and Greenwood are more suited to me, growing up in a rural community like Clinton. We are very happy to be here in Greenwood."
