Nintey Six man arrested after firing handgun at family

A man from Ninety Six was arrested after deputies with the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic dispute call.  Prior to arriving deputies were informed that shots had been fired.

Troy Lee White, 55 of 904 McKenzie Road, Ninety Six was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

According to the police report, White had become angry after telling family members they needed to cut grass.  The situation escalated after one family member said that the lawnmower was not working.  This continued until White took a stick and began striking one with it. The victim was able to take the stick away and that’s when White retrieved a handgun from inside the residence.

According to witnesses, the victim saw the gun and began running away and White pointed the gun in his direction and fired.  Another victim intervened in an attempt to stop White from shooting and White fired a shot at the ground beside that person too.

When deputies arrived, White came outside the residence and was detained without further incident.

The handgun, a 38 special revolver was located with White’s assistance.  The gun was loaded with two fired shots.

According to White, he told deputies that he retrieved the gun after they jumped him and that he shot into the air.

White was arrested and transported to the Greenwood County Detention Center.
