Florida man dies in hunting incident

Brian King
Staff Writer

A Florida man was killed Saturday morning about 9 a.m. in a hunting incident near Ninety Six.

According to Greenwood County Coroner Sonny Cox, the victim is Robert Arthur Iselin Jr., 51, of Jacksonville, Fla. Officials with the S.C. Department of Natural Resources say that Iselin was hunting in the woods off of Carter Road near Ninety Six when the accident occurred.

Officials said that five men, four of them from Florida and one from South Carolina, were at a hunt camp off Carter Road. The men were reportedly there to hunt wild hogs. Two of the men, Iselin and Lucas J. Brickweg, also from Florida, went out on an ATV about 7 a.m.

Iselin dropped Brickweg off at a tree stand and returned to the camp. At around 9 a.m., officials say that Brickweg fired his rifle, a 30-06 with a scope, hitting Iselin in the right torso. Brickweg then got out of the tree stand and went to get help. Iselin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials with DNR say that Brickweg has been charged with criminal use of a firearm and no hunting license. More charges could follow, pending the conclusion of the investigation, officials said.

Tragically, a life cut short by carelessness or accident. You can't unpull a trigger! I didn't know there are wild hogs in Ninety Six. The family is in my prayers.

First rule (or top 3) don't shoot at what you can't see! This could have easily been avoided.

Yeah this needs to be thoroughly investigated as all "accidents" should be.. This very easily could be that someone knew to much and/or found out about "the affair" then gets a few "friends" to invite em on a hunting trip.. Yea I dunno- Just thinking... God's the Judge- It's just our job to send the murders on to Him, so He can Judge em.
