An investigation by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office, Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, Laurens County Coroner’s Office, SLED and other agencies has led to the arrest of thirty-three year old Darrell Ervin Raines, Jr. for the murder of thirty-one year old Myranda Dale Southern also known as Myranda Whisenant. Raines was arrested in Greenville County on the evening of August 29, 2013 without incident and was transported to the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.
Raines whose address is listed as 107 Saluda Rdg. in Greenville, SC has been charged with Murder and the Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime by the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office.
Myranda Southern was last seen alive on Monday, August 19, 2013 in Greenville County. Her body was later found the following Friday, August 23, 2013 in a grassy area located off Bramlett Church Road in the Gray Court area of Laurens County. Autopsy results revealed Southern died of a gunshot wound to the neck. Southern was not positively identified by the Laurens County Coroner’s Office until August 29, 2013.
Through a cooperative effort by law enforcement agencies into Myranda Southern’s murder investigators were able to obtain arrest warrants for Darrell Ervin Raines, Jr. for the murder of Southern.
It is believed Raines and Southern began communicating on line before meeting in person approximately one week before Southern’s disappearance.
