Emmett Smith, 85

Emmett L. Smith, 85, of 8321 Highway 246 South, Ninety Six, widower of Mary Hancock Smith, died Monday, November 5, 2012 at his home.

Born in Newberry County, he was a son of the late David and Alice Turner Smith.  He was retired from Michelin in Lexington and was a US Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.  He was a member of Ninety Six Church of God.

Surviving are three daughters, Cheryl Lawson, Joan Chastain and her husband, Gene, and Agnes Schultz and her husband, Dwight, all of Ninety Six; two sisters, Ginger Lee King of Toccoa, GA and Robbie Waters of Clinton; a brother, Cleave Smith of Conestee; grandchildren, Mickey Chastain of Cross Anchor, Johnny Chastain (Nicole Miller), Crystal Kamyszek (Steven) and Taylor Schultz, all of Ninety Six; ten great grandchildren and a special friend, Jeanette Voiselle of Ninety Six.

He was preceded in death by his son, Emmett Dean Smith.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronald Chavis, the Rev. Bobby Davis and Mickey Chastain officiating.  Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Mickey Chastain, Johnny Chastain and Steven Kamyszek, great grandsons: Sawyer Chastain and Preston Pittman, nephews: David Smith, William King and Greg Todd.

Honorary escort will be nephews along with Manley Ballentine and Doug Turner.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The family is at the home.

Memorials may be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646 or to the charity of your choice.
