Vera Johnson Tharpe, 85

Vera Johnson Tharpe, 85, widow of Leon Tharpe, died February 12, 2013 at Magnolia Manor.

Born in Greenwood, February 9, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Rufus and Nellie Pearl McClain Johnson.  Mrs. Tharpe was a graduate of Greenwood High School and retired from Greenwood Mills, Durst Plant.  She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. 

Surviving are a daughter, Camille Holroyd and a son, Mack Tharpe, both of Greenwood; two sisters, Margie Gibson of Greenwood and Patti Latter of Ft. Myers, FL; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mrs. Tharpe was predeceased by a sister, Garnelle Johnson Cook and a brother, Lamar Johnson.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 PM Thursday from the Blyth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phil Thrailkill officiating. Burial will follow in Oakbrook Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Trae Tharpe, Scurry Tharpe, Mackenzie Tharpe and Colby Tharpe along with Jimmy McClain, Chip Cook and Greg Morrow.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 to 3 Thursday afternoon.

Memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 211 N. Main Street, Greenwood, SC  29646 or to Alzheimer’s Association, SC Chapter 4124 Clemson Blvd. Suite L, Anderson, SC  29621.
